Every year, Major League Soccer, the U.S. professional soccer league, sponsors the Major League Soccer All-Star Game, which is sometimes called the MLS all star game. The game pits a selection of top U.S. players against players from an international soccer club to play for bragging rights. The event first took place in 1996 and has been held every year since though the U.S. versus the world format only began in 2005.
